Hearty breakfast sets Aileen up for charity feat

Charity fundraiser Aileen Hughes is one step closer to zip sliding across the Clyde in aid of Sense Scotland.

East Ren woman Aileen held a successful fundraising breakfast at La Vita Piccolino E Vino on Saturday, encouraging ladies only to dine out and sponsor her upcoming charity feat on April 19.

She told The Extra: “The ladies only event was wonderful — an overwhelming success. When I set up my JustGiving site, my aim was to raise a total of £150 for Sense Scotland, a charity which helps deafblind and disabled children and adults, as well as their families.

“On the day, £90 had already been donated to the site. At the breakfast, we had donation boxes and the 30 ladies who attended donated the amazing sum of £457.50. I’m overwhelmed and amazed.”

Aileen added thanks to host Marco at Piccolinos for providing a venue, and to husband Martin, who paid for the cost of the breakfast as a 50th birthday present to the fundraiser.

She added: “The idea behind the breakfast was to give something back to those who sponsored me, as a way to say thanks.

“Now I have the Zip Slide Across the Clyde to look forward to on Sunday, April 19 — and I can’t wait.”
