High achievers at Hillpark Secondary

Head teacher Joan Donnelly welcomed councillor Stephen Curran, executive member for education and young people, as well as members of the community and over 100 pupils from S2-6, to an event in the school assembly hall.

Youngsters who have excelled in science, sports and citizenship were recognised, and Diana, Crest, Saltire and John Muir awards were just some of the accolades handed out on the night.

Pupils were also invited to give short presentations on the work they’d done, and cheques were presented to charities including the Prince and Princess of Wales Brick by Brick Appeal, foodbank charity The Trussell Trust and a local Parkinsons charity.

Mrs Donnelly commented: “Our pupils make an incredible contribution to their own community, and we’re delighted that this work is now being recognised through wider achievement awards.”

Councillor Curran - who represents the southside ward of Newlands and Auldburn - tweeted that it was an “inspiring evening at Hillpark celebrating wider achievement with hundreds of remarkable pupils, staff and community”.

Among the special guests was former pupil and professional footballer Louis Longridge, who presented Sports Leadership awards.

Hillpark pupil David Craig was also singled out for a Professor D G Smith prize from Strathclyde University, having designed a successful mobile phone app for use during the Commonwealth Games.
