Highland cattle come to Nethercroy Hill

WALKERS will have new sights to take in at Nethercroy Hill, as the Forestry Commission Scotland is introducing 28 Highland cattle to the woodland from April until September.

The move is part of the UK Biodiversity Action Plan, and the cattle will help to protect the mosaic of habitats and species on the site of lowland meadows, woodland and wetland.

Most of the cattle will come from another Forestry Commission site in the Trossachs, where they have been doing the same job.

The cattle will be able to roam in the 80-hectare site, which is fenced and borders the Forth and Clyde Canal.

However, the cattle – which will be looked after by a local farmer – will not be fenced within a particular area.
