Community Windpower projects director Rob Fryer said that a fresh application for the eight-turbine Hill Rig Windfarm would be lodged “by the end of the month”.

The initial blueprint was rejected by councillors after it provoked 230 objection letters.

“If these resubmitted plans are approved then we will start building within 12 months,” Rob added.

Work would take between nine and 10 months.

“Around 150 on-site jobs would be created, with the windfarm generating £63,000 for three community councils – Carluke, Carnwath and Tarbrax.”

Community Windpower is committed to allocating £5000 per megawatt of power generated annually to ‘community benefit’, just over 50 per cent of which is earmarked for South Lanarkshire Council.

The remaining £2250 per megawatt would be split between the three community councils.
