Final year nursery teaching student Janine Bell couldn’t believe her luck when she found out she’d scooped Clyde 1’s Cash Call Extra on Bowie at Breakfast.

The 21-year-old from Holytown plans to use the windfall to buy her first car as well as organise a holiday in Lanzarote.

Janine said: “I’m still in shock, I can’t believe I’ve won £10,000! I never enter anything and it was my boyfriend who encouraged me to try my luck as he’d already entered. Never in a million years did I think I would win.”

Speaking about nearly missing out on the call from George Bowie, she added: “I must have cancelled my alarm, I was supposed to get up at 6.30am, but instead I woke up at 8.00am.

“I checked my phone and saw I had a missed call from a number I didn’t know. I put two and two together and thought it must have been Clyde 1 so called back.

“I was absolutely raging because I thought I’d missed my chance and I texted my boyfriend to tell him what had happened.

“A few nail-biting minutes passed and then luckily my phone rang again and this time I was ready for it!

“When I heard it was George Bowie at the other end telling me I’d won £10,000 I was over the moon. I was shaking from head to toe and pacing around my bedroom.

“The strange thing is, if I hadn’t slept in I would have been on the bus on my way to college and there was no way I would have answered the call on a busy bus. I never sleep in so I think it was fate.”

Janine even made it into college after her £10K call, ignoring George Bowie’s advice to ‘shop ‘til she dropped’. She said: “All my friends and family heard me on the radio and so everyone has been on Facebook congratulating me. I’ve been buzzing in college all day, I’m finding it hard to take anything in.”

Janine’s gave boyfriend Craig Roe special thanks, the 24-year-old traffic manager having set the wheels in motion for her surprise cash injection.

She said: “It’s all down to him, he’ll definitely be coming on holiday with me. We’ve wanted to go away for ages but holidays are so expensive.

“With this money we can plan a trip away together, I’ve not been abroad for six years so I’m really looking forward to it.”

George Bowie added: “It really is one of the best calls you get to make when you’re on the radio. We are so thrilled for Janine and we’re really glad Clyde 1 and our competition sponsor Wholesale Domestic Bathrooms, Hillington can help her buy her first car and go on her first holiday abroad in six years, both are big milestones so it’s really fantastic to be a part of that.”

Bowie at Breakfast runs every weekday morning from 6-10am on Clyde 1.
