Hospice teams up with recycling charity for appeal

A HOSPICE which treats sick children is set to be quids in through a new green scheme being launched locally – and donors don’t have to pay a penny to help

For CHAS has teamed up with a recycling charity which is targeting Cumbernauld and Kilsyth for the first time.

Recently Trading Standards officers raised the alarm about unscrupulous operators collecting unwanted garments and taking these to Eastern Europe with profiteering in mind. However, the new initiative is entirely above board as monies raised will go straight to CHAS.

Locals are now being leafleted by Clothes Aid, inviting locals to donate fashionable clothes shoes and accessories to the the organisation.

Clothes Aid spokeswoman Megan Weston said: “Whether you want to donate unwanted gifts or items in the wrong size or colour, we can use your fashion mistakes to raise much-needed funds for CHAS.’’

The organisation is also on the hunt for so-called Charity Champions to act as collectors for the scheme – who would make themselves available several times a year to this end Miss Weston also stressed that she would like community groups, churches and businesses to pool their resources, making jumbo-style uplifts possible.

“Staff pick up the clothes in a Clothes Aid collection van and we ask the individual charity champions to collect a few bags. In some cases we want to arrange a collection with neighbours as part of say, a neighbourhood watch group, and we then collect at a convenient time,” added Miss Weston.
