House fate isput on hold

THE fate of Cumbernauld House could be sealed in weeks following a meeting of North Lanarkshire Council’s planning and environment committee in Motherwell.

There had been expectation that the controversial application to turn the A-Listed building into flats would be discussed today (Wednesday) but that is no longer the case.

Glasgow-based construction firm CHB Developments Ltd. purchsed the 18th century hunting lodge last year, after the building had lain disused for several years.

However, community group Cumbernauld House Trust has argued that the planning application should be rejected - as they try to find a way to buy the house to this end.The group has thousands of global supporters online after opting to create a page on social networking site Facebook.

David Sutton, built heritage and design team leader at NLC, said: “We have received some additional information from the project architect, and are waiting for further details in relation to the planning application.

“ Once that is received and evaluated, the applic-ation will be put to the next available planning and transportation committee.

A number of requests for a site visit and hearing have been received, so the committee may decide to postpone a decision until one can be held,” he added.
