Huge housing shot in the arm for Cumbernauld

A HOUSING bonanza has at last come to Kildrum – after a project worth nearly £6 million was given the green light by the Scottish Executive.

A HOUSING bonanza has at last come to Kildrum – after a project worth nearly £6 million was given the green light by the Scottish Executive.

A total of 58 homes will be created in the area – and ALL will be available for social rent, in a bid to address Cumbernauld’s acute shortage of affordable housing.

The properties are due to be completed in April 2013.

Social housing landlord Sanctuary will receive £2.1 million from the Scottish Government’s investment and innovation fund towards the total cost of the project.

The properties will be built by Sanctuary Scotland but managed and maintained by Sanctuary Cumbernauld.

Gordon Laurie, the director of both housing associations, said: “Sanctuary is committed to providing much-needed housing for social rent in Kildrum.”
