Hugh Forrester (73) laps Lanark Loch - seven times!

JUST three laps into a seven-lap charity jog around Lanark Loch on Sunday, Hugh Forrester sustained a dead leg.

But the gutsy pensioner completed his challenge and raised 225 for this year's Red Hose Race in Carnwath on June 19.

Hugh (73), of Clark Terrace, who finished in one hour and 32 minutes, told the Gazette that he was delighted to raise so much money.

"The jog was a bit of a struggle for me," he said. "My left leg started to feel like lead after just three laps.

"But the support I received from around 20 people watching inspired me to keep going. Every time I ran past they were cheering me on."

Hugh is now looking forward to running the Red Hose Race in Sir John Mann Park, when he is once again likely to be the oldest competitor.

The Friends of the Red Hose will screen the Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Vogue Cinema in Lanark from 7.30pm this Sunday, May 2.
