Iain Craig (22) was forced to give up his heating engineer apprenticeship while he recovered, but has now completed a Get Into Construction training scheme operated by the Prince’s Trust and New College Lanarkshire.

He undertook four weeks of practical and theory work at the college’s Motherwell campus and then enjoyed a week’s work placement with the Kier Group at an East Kilbride school.

Iain said: “It felt brilliant to be out on site, I got into the habit of being at work again.

“I’m hoping now to be able to carry on my apprenticeship where I left off.”

Iain gained a CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) card which was presented at a ceremony held at the college’s Motherwell Campus.

Work to expand and refurbish the first of seven operating theatres at Monklands Hospital has also helped two Motherwell teenagers youngsters build towards jobs in the construction industry.
