Ian Ruddock was accused of murdering baby Olivia at their home in Clarkston, but a jury convicted him of a reduced charge of culpable homicide.

During the trial, the High Court in Edinburgh heard that Ruddock had got up on March 6, 2011 to feed Olivia, who had become unwell. He said that he shook the child in an attempt to wake her.

The 34-year-old, from Shawlands, was also found guilty of attempted murder of a boy - who suffered a fractured skull and fractured ribs - in Glasgow in 2013.

Judge Lord Bannatyne said: “The offences which you have been convicted of are of very significant gravity.

“You committed both these offences when both children were babies. It is difficult to think of a more vulnerable victim than a baby.”

Following sentencing, detective chief inspector Maxine Martin released a statement for Police Scotland, which said: “I again would like to offer my condolences to Olivia’s extended family who have endured a torrid and distressing time over the past few years.”
