Properties at 1-21 Orbiston Court and 352-368C Orbiston Street have been declared surplus to requirement by North Lanarkshire Council’s Housing and Social Work Services committee.

In August 2015 the committee approved the demolition of the properties at a cost of £132,000.

However, since then the council has received an external expression of interest in the site, while NLP is applying to the Scottish Government’s Vacant and derelict Land Fund to take its proposal forward.

NLP, which owns an adjacent site, is looking for £450,000 to be used for the design, planning and site preparatory costs for the development of small industrial units.

These enabling works will form the first phase of this development and provide supporting infrastructure to create job opportunities.
