It’s good to talk
Called Talking TogethER, the sessions are aimed at giving people confidence and relating the best way to approach what can be difficult topics for parents.
The project is a joint venture between East Ren’s CHCP health improvement team, East Ren libraries and NHSGGC’s sexual health improvement team.

Hide AdTo help parents choose the right level of book for their child, all library staff have been trained to assist parents in selecting the correct book for their child’s age.
Drop-in sessions for parents who wish to find out more about Talking TogethER are taking place at Barrhead library on Thursday from 6pm.
Councillor Alan Lafferty, East Renfrewshire council’s convener for social work and health, said: “Talking TogethER aims to help parents talk to their children in an age-appropriate way supported by the books and leaflets.
“This early intervention project is working to improve the outcomes of our young people by promoting emotional wellbeing, positive relationships and a positive sense of sexuality.”

Hide AdParents can also sign up for a local workshop which can help them communicate with youngsters on awkward topics such as sexual health, growing up, puberty and relationships.
Research in Scotland shows that young people whose parents communicate with them and talk to them about sexual health from a young age are more likely to delay the onset of sexual behaviour.
