It’s playtime for Busby’s bairns

The ribbon has been cut on a brand new early years playground - and for Busby kids, it’s time to play.

Busby Nursery’s £42,000 outdoor space was officially opened by East Renfrewshire provost Alastair Carmichael on Friday.

Busby’s Bairns Bothy is a result of a funding boost from two donors, as well as a fundraising push by the Busby Nursery Class Parent Support Group.

Sharon Hunter, head teacher of Busby Primary and Nursery, welcomed the provost, councillors, Eastwood MSP Ken Macintosh and special guests, and explained: “We’ve been able to completely revamp our nursery playground facility. Thanks to £30,000 from Whitelee, £10,000 of Lottery funding and £2,000 raised by the Parent Support Group, we’ve been able to create a superb playground for the children to enjoy.”

The new, colourful playground promises a chance for the youngsters to learn more, according to Julie Oswald, principal teacher at Busby.

She added: “The children will now have greater opportunities to challenge themselves and develop a range of skills in an attractive, safe and fun area. Our staff and pupils are delighted to be benefiting from the new playground.”
