JC Pom Poms dance off to the world championships

A cheerleading squad has secured a spot at the dance world championships in America next year after winning first place at a competition in Newcastle.

The world finals are held in Epcot, at Disney World Resort in Florida and coach, Joanne Carr, at JC Dance and Cheer Academy in Kirkintilloch, said it is “an experience of a lifetime”.

“This year most of the parents went out and some brothers and sisters as well. There was about 50 of us in total.”

This is the first time that two squads from Kirkintilloch will compete, after The Glitter Red girls impressed judges in Newcastle.

Choreographer, Jade Hunter, said she avoids solos in routines because it detracts from the team spirit they have.

She said: “We don’t want them to compete against each other. It is really a team sport.

“They come straight from school and do their homework here and some stay until nine o’clock.”

Jade and mum, Joanne, said the dedication shown by the girls is world class.

They train at one of Scotland’s only purpose built facilities, which is based in Old Mill Park industrial estate on Campsie Road.
