Jeely’s key for future jobs boost for Carluke

ONE of Carluke’s oldest firms could hold the key to the town’s future recovery with plans for a massive expansion.

The 132-year-old jam-maker R&W Scott hopes to DOUBLE its business over the next three years, holding out the prospect of 70 new jobs to add to that number of employees already working at the world-famous ’jeely-works’ in Clyde Street.

Its hopes to grow the company in the teeth of the long financial slump are pinned on a new healthy jam Scott’s have developed with an eye to a new generation of sweet-toothed but figure and weight-conscious consumers worldwide.
