Jen (36), of Auchengray, is having her luxuriant hair cut off in braids for the Little Princess Trust, which makes wigs for children undergoing cancer treatment.

But sponsorship for the main event, which will see her having her head actually shaved, will go to Macmillan Cancer Support.

Macmillan nurses supported her entire family when her mum Iris Black died of cancer, aged only 46.

In the years since, Jen and the family have raised funds, particularly at the World’s Largest Coffee Morning, to help the charity’s work.

The headshave is taking place this Saturday in Auchengray Church Hall from noon until 4pm and everyone is invited along for a bit of lunch and to spend money on other fundraisers.

“We have many auction and raffle items donated from businesses in Biggar, Lanark, Carnwath and the surrounding area,” said Jen.

“So far we have reached the first £1000 mark.

“I am confident we will bring in the last £1000 on the day!

“All the money is going to Macmillan Cancer Support.”

Soup and a roll will be served for £1.50 and a cake and cuppa will be available until 2pm.

There will be a children’s area with a TV and toys and the kids eat and drink free.

Braid-cutting starts at 2.30pm and Jen hopes to get 12 braids out of her hair long enough to be given to the Little Princess Trust.

Then the Macmillan Shave or Style challenge sees Peter from the Director’s Box in Lanark shave Jen’s head at 3pm.

Jen is typically modest about what she is planning –she says she cannot see what the fuss is about because her hair will grow back but by going bald she can raise awarness for the charity.

And she is not finished yet – she is also training for a Macmillan assault course.
