Gary said: “The funding is entirely down to parents and friends of Jennifer and it is a lot to raise.

“Being picked for the Great Britain team is a big deal for Jennifer and she is delighted and very excited.”

Jennifer runs with Red Star Athletics Club in Glasgow.

Gary added: “Jennifer trains very hard. She loves her sport.

“Merkland School has also been very supportive. It was Jennifer’s PE teacher Jane Keys who got her into running just three years ago .

“Jane is so dedicated and enthusiastic which is really appreciated.”

Jennifer is the only athlete from East Dunbartonshire in the squad and the sole girl in the GB athletics squad. The World Games take place in July 2015.
