Jobs stampede at new Carluke Tesco

Poor economic conditions have seen almost 1000 people apply for jobs in the new Carluke Tesco store, which is set to open in mid-September.

A total of 200 positions will be created when the store, on the site of the former Loch Park Stadium, opens its doors.

However, more than 950 applications were submitted to the supermarket giant before all the positions were filled.

The sheer volume of applications means that there are going to be a lot of disappointed people in the town – all of whom will be pinning their hopes on securing a job.

Tesco corporate affairs manager Doug Wilson said: “I can confirm that the store will be open by the middle of September. There will be 200 jobs created in both full and part time positions.”

Doug also confirmed that there had been a number of complaints regarding traffic disruption on Lanark Road, due to the new Tesco being built.

“We have received some complaints regarding HGVs but we took the decision to advise them to re-route,” he said.
