John Cumming Stadium set to open in Carluke

THE Gazette was this week given a sneak preview of the state-of-the-art new John Cumming Stadium in Carnwath Road, which will open to the public for the first time on Monday, March 7.

And we were suitably impressed by the £3.5 million replacement for Loch Park Stadium, which is named after the late, great Carluke football legend who played for Scotland and won seven domestic honours with Hearts.

Boasting a full size sports pitch and eight lane polymeric running track with integrated steeplechase, long jump pit, practice shot putt and high jump quadrant, the South Lanarkshire Council funded stadium is stunningly good.

“This is a fantastic facility for Carluke,” said the council’s change and development officer Cameron Barr.

“It is one of the best new stadiums built in Scotland in the past few years.

Find out for yourself when the stadium opens to the public between 5pm and 10pm on Monday, March 7.
