John’s fundraiser in mum’s memory draws the crowds

THE rain may have been battering down, but that didn’t dampen spirits at a major fundraiser held for Strathcarron Hospice in Colzium Estate on Saturday.

The C in the Park festival was organised by the Montgomery family in memory of their mum, Margaret Haughey, who was cared for by staff at the Denny charity.

More than 1500 people turned up to enjoy the packed schedule, which included everything from dog shows to countless musical acts.

The final amount raised is still to be tallied up, but John Montgomery (pictured right), one of the organisers, expects it to stretch well into the thousands.

He said: “We were all really happy with how it went. It was a great day out and a great tribute to the work they do at Strathcarron.”

The inclement weather unfortunately forced the closer of the main stage just after 6pm for safety reasons, however, in the spirit of the day, the fun continued inside the acoustic tent.

John added: “We thank the volunteers who put in all the hard work, Angela GillIes representing Strathcarron Hospice and MP Gregg McClymont.

“A huge thanks to all the performers and organisations who helped make it a success and, of course, to everyone who came out to support us.”
