Join Cairnhill Woods group for dawn chorus

Volunteers from Cairnhill Woods Group in Bearsden teamed up with Westerton Primary School pupils for a Keep Scotland Beautiful event last week.

They collected 15 bin bags of rubbish from the woods, which is a popular spot for dog walkers, and the paths leading up to the school.

Emma Sheppard, one of the volunteers, said: “The wood was much quicker to clear than in years gone by thanks to the efforts of local residents who pick up litter on a daily basis.

“It was mostly plastic bottles that were collected near the school so we are calling for families to consider alternatives for their children to take drinks to school, such as using the school’s water fountain or refillable bottles.”

The next Woods Group event is a Dawn Chorus walk at 6.30 am on Saturday, May 14.

Cairnhill Woods Group are delighted to be welcoming two RSPB experts who will be leading the walk.

They will meet at post 1, which is at the entrance by 102 Henderland Road, G61 1JD. Booking is not required, just turn up on the day.

All are welcome.
