Just the job for Caitlin

A LEADING house provider in Cumbernauld has announced it will be recruiting young office staff to boost its already successful apprenticeship programme.

Sanctuary has created the posts to supplement the 100-plus young tradespeople who have earned while they learned on Sanctuary developments in Cumbernauld and elsewhere.

Construction giants City Building, CCG Scotland and GRAHAM are among the contractors who have played an active role in developing apprentices on Sanctuary’s Scottish projects.

Cumbernauld teenager Caitlin Jones won a place on the scheme from City Building last August.

The 18-year-old recently joined other apprentices to meet with Sanctuary director Gordon Laurie, who caught up with those young people on the scheme as part of Scottish Apprenticeship Week, which runs from May 20 to 24.

Caitlin and the other apprentices were given a £50 voucher to help buy their own tools or office equipment.

She said: “I have a year and a half to go but the course so far has flown in. Working in construction has been really interesting, whether dealing with parts or PPE (personal protective equipment).”

Sanctuary will directly recruit its own office apprentices this summer. One will be based at Sanctuary Scotland’s Glasgow headquarters, with the other employed by Sanctuary Cumbernauld in the town.

Gordon Laurie said: “Sanctuary always tries to create employment and training opportunities whenever and wherever we invest.

“By working in partnership with our contractors, we do all we can to ensure we maximise the number of apprentices and other trainees who get the chance to learn life-changing skills.”
