Kids enjoy monster fun

The library has organised a number of school holiday fun activities such as making dancing dragons and monster door hangers. These activities were linked to North Lanarkshire Council’s Summer Breakout programme of summer activities.

A spooky theme was much in evidence as this year’s summer reading challenge is based around Creepy House, an adventure story illustrated by Chris Riddell. Children participated in the challenge by signing up at their library and agreeing to read six books. During the challenge kids could win a glow in the dark wristband or an activity book by Chris Ridddell called The House and the Mouse.

Children’s Activities Librarian Marion Kunderan said: “The Summer Reading Challenge is a great way to keep children engaged in reading for pleasure over the long school holidays and hopefully those taking part will head back to school in August as more confident readers and with a sense of achievement.”

Participants are also entered into a draw to win an Xbox 360 Kinect. The fun continues online at www.creepy-house,org,uk which features lots of games and features on top children’s authors and illustrators. Creepy House will run until the end of September and everyone who completes it will get a medal and certificate.
