Kilsyth Academy prizewinners celebrate

Head teacher Gillian Caldwell paid tribute to the youngsters’ achievements on many fronts throughout the course of the school year, not just in their studies.

She said: “Within the school, we have held many special events and incentive schemes - a number of Primary events, a Health Day, public speaking competitions, the Rotary Club Technology Competition, visits from the fire service and Police, the Kids’ Lit Quiz, our annual Burns Supper, various discos, a Hallowe’en Party, a Ghost Tour, ‘Crazy Day’, when we raised £1680, and our school show, ‘Back to the 80s’.

“Many clubs, too may to list, have also run throughout the year, both at lunchtimes and after school, and a number of these were run by our senior pupils.

“Our pupils have supported a wide range of charities, raising over £2700. The three main charities that we raised money for were Strathcarron Hospice, Yorkhill Children’s Foundation and the World Cancer Research Fund, all chosen by the Pupil Councils.

“In addition, we supported events in aid of the Poppy Appeal, Children In Need and Red Nose Day.”

Mrs Caldwell said the children were the pride of the school and also thanked the staff for their hard work.

She added: “I am sure that you will agree that our young people participate in a vast range of activities, achieve great things and are offered some remarkable opportunities during their time in Kilsyth Academy. “Our pupils do a great deal to fill us with pride but could not achieve all that they do without the commitment and support of a very dedicated staff team.

“The considerable efforts of our teaching and non-teaching staff mean that pupils are able to benefit from a rich menu of educational opportunities, including many that take place beyond the school day.

“I would like to express on my own behalf, and on behalf of the parents and pupils, my warmest appreciation to our staff, who invest a great deal of time and energy, and who ensure that these activities are successful.”
