Kilsyth Yes campaigners vow to keep up the fight

The success of the Yes campaign in Kilsyth will cause branch membership to rise ‘substantially’ in the town as the fight for independence continues.

That’s the view of Kilsyth’s only Scottish Nationalist councillor Alan Stevenson days after North Lanarkshire became just one of four Scottish local authorities to register a Yes vote.

A total of 51 per cent of voters backed a Yes Vote with 49 per cent backing Better Together.

Yes activists from Kilsyth who attended the count have claimed that more than 58 percent of local voters backed independence. North Lanarkshire Council has stressed these are unofficial figures

Councillor Stevenson said: “I am delighted at the wonderfully positive support from Kilsyth and the villages and I hope that people wil l take stock at the result.’’

The Chronicle tried to contact members of the Kilsyth Better Together campaign but no-one was available for comment by time of going to press.
