Kirkintilloch, Lenzie and Bishopbriggs - get set to party

COMMUNITIES across East Dunbartonshire are getting ready for the gala season.

The popular events in Kirkintilloch, Lenzie and Bishopbriggs will have lots of fun for all the family.

The Lenzie Jubilee Gala takes place this Saturday, June 2.

The parade will leave Lenzie Station car park at 12.30pm heading to Lenzie Ruby Club’s Viewfiled ground for the main event.

Guest of honour will be Lenzie’s very first Gala Queen from 1979, Heather Findlay (nee Ross), who will crown this year’s queen, Ellie Cook.

Ellie will be joined by maids of honour Kirstin Mitchell, Eva Curran, Kiela Trotter and page boy Louis Douglas.

There will be performances from Irish dancers, a group of women drummers, an ED Cycle Co-op workshop, a bouncy castle, funfair rides, a mobile adventure unit and much more.

Kirkintilloch Gala Week gets underway with the crowing of the Gala Queen, Rachel McMillan, on Saturday, June 2, at noon in the Regent Gardens.

Rachel will be joined by attendants Morag McKay, Kayleigh McGill, Alan Moffat and James Scott.

A programme of events has been planned throughout the week, including a primary school disco, and an inter-schools 7-a-side football championship.

Kirkintilloch Gala Day takes place on Saturday, June 9, and kicks-off with the traditional parade, from William Patrick Library at 1pm to Woodhead Park. The event will open at 1.30pm.

Bishopbriggs Jubilee Gala takes place on Saturday, June 2, at the Fort Theatre. The fun kicks-off at 11am and the crowning of the Gala Queen takes place at 1pm.

There will be live entertainment, a street play festival with older members of the community demonstrating old games including skipping, kerby and marbles, and a giant bubble machine.

A bouncy castle, chess and sports competitions and an overnight campsite for scouts and brownie groups are some of the other attractions planned for th epopular community event..
