Kirkintilloch library’s closed, but you can still have a say...

The ground floor of William Patrick Library, in Kirkintilloch, will remain shut until August 27, when it will reopen as a ‘community hub’ offering a range of council services.

Many library users have been left angry at the plan – arguing that it is effectively cutting library services without adequate consultation.

The council and East Dunbartonshire Leisure and Culture Trust have now launched a questionnaire and want residents to share their thoughts on how services are delivered at the hub.

Council chief executive Gerry Cornes said: “The strong feedback from our consultation processes was that we should invest in new facilities and new ways of working, like community hubs to improve our services to our customers and, vitally, to save money and protect frontline services such as our libraries.

“We are now seeking the views of our customers on how we can improve service delivery within this modern facility which has been designed to embrace new technology and utilise resources more efficiently.

“I would encourage people to take a few minutes to complete the questionnaire as your feedback will enable us to better shape our services to meet your needs.”
