Kirkintilloch museum to host weekend of family fun

A family fun weekend is being held at the Auld Kirk Museum in Kirkintilloch with various activities taking place.

The free event, part of the Festival of Museums Weekend, will take place on Friday 16, Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 May.

Throughout the weekend, artist Marie Hay will be in residence at the museum, giving painting demonstrations and running workshops.

On Saturday, children will be able to dress up, while adults enjoy the fun of a Victorian Tea Party and Music Hall Event.

And on Sunday there will be opportunities to find out about the Romans and the Antonine Wall.

Scott Hill, chairman of the East Dunbartonshire Leisure and Culture Trust said: “Families who attend will be able to find out more about our local history and also take part in object handling sessions.

“There will also be a Roman Legionary soldier who will promote the Antonine Wall.

“Children will have the opportunity to dress in replica Roman costume and have their photographs taken with him.

“We will have a face painter working both Saturday and Sunday, as well as our Roman Legionary and Victorian ‘Barker’.

“The weekend is set to be a lot of fun and I look forward to welcoming everyone to the Auld Kirk Museum.”

Convener of Development and Regeneration, Councillor Alan Moir added, “I would encourage the people of East Dunbartonshire to come along and join in what is set to be a three-day treat of exciting and surprising events.”

Meanwhile, artist Marie Hay’s exhibition ‘Commonwealth City 2014 – Views of Glasgow’, opens at the Auld Kirk Museum on May 31.
