Kirkintilloch Herald reader Danny McFadden launched his ‘Lion Foundry Challenge’ online last month - asking travellers and holidaymakers to keep a look out for examples of the work of the famous Kirkintilloch foundries.

His followers have now reached triple figures, and the far-flung examples are starting to mount up - particularly when it comes to the Lion Foundry’s iconic red telephone boxes.

Danny said: “From a great distance I’ve received pictures on Facebook from Antigua, St Kitts and Argentina.

“From within the UK I have received pictures from Dorset, Shottendon, Oxfordshire, Birmingham, Port Talbot, Musselburgh, Lower Largo in Fife, Loch Lomond, Kirkintilloch and Milton of Campsie bowling green.

“I even discovered that an old tram shelter in Northampton has its own Facebook page.”

He added: “I’m seeing so many Kirky-made telephone boxes around the world that I’m beginning to think that Doctor Who is actually a true story!”
