Kirkmuirhill toddler Eva Pierce prepares to travel to America for life-saving treatment

Two-year-old Eva Pierce has completed one cycle of chemotherapy for Grade 3 Anaplastic Ependymoma at Yorkhill Children’s Hospital in Glasgow.

Her parents, Kenny and Claire, who live in Kirkmuirhill, are hopeful that they will be travelling to America by the end of October so Eva can receive the life-saving Proton Therapy.

The NHS will be covering the cost of Eva’s treatment as there is no such facility in the UK and will be flying both Kenny and Claire over as well.

However, as Eva will be in the US for two and a half months, the family are fundraising in order for Eva’s five brothers, all aged 12 and under, to join them.

Dad Kenny said: “It’s very important that Eva receives this treatment as soon as possible.

“The treatment will happen over seven weeks and will take place five days a week.

“Eva will also have to be under general anaesthetic so it is very intense but it gives her the best chance of beating this cancer.

“Although Proton Therapy is less damaging than conventional radiation, it is not without its own risks but we are too scared not to do it; we want Eva here with us.”
