Kirky actress to play Miss Hannigan in Annie

A Kirkintilloch Players stalwart has landed her dream role in Annie at the King’s Theatre in Glasgow.

Julie Cassells will play child-hating Miss Hannigan in the Lyric Club’s upcoming production.

Julie’s role will be completely different from her job working with children at Riverside Childcare in Kirkintilloch.

The 41-year-old mum, who has been with Kirkintilloch Players for more than 30 years, said: “This is my dream part. I’ve wanted a chance to play Hannigan for a long time and to perform it at the King’s Theatre is amazing.

“Rehearsals are going really well and I’m enjoying working with the 60 kids who play the orphans.

“I work with kids aged three to 12 with my main job being in after school care working with school aged children. “They think it’s hilarious that I’m playing someone who hates children.”

Julie has been involved in Annie a few times, directing it twice with the Kirkintilloch Players youth theatre and appearing in a separate production with The Minerva Club in the role Grace Farrell.

The show runs at the King’s Theatre from April 8-12.
