Kirsten says '˜thanks' for her two years as MP

Former East Renfrewshire MP Kirsten Oswald, ousted in Thursday's General Election, says her term as MP has been 'the privilege of my life'.

The SNP politician defeated former Labour leader Jim Murphy to become the area’s MP in the 2015 General Election, but this week lost to Tory newconmer Paul Masterton.

In a message on social media she said: “Our community has been at the heart of everything I did, and I’m very grateful to have been able to spend two years working for you all.

“I have worked with a fantastic office team, who have gone way beyond the call of duty to help and support constituents. They have been immense.

“I know you’ll join me in wishing them every success in the future.

“My campaign team has worked their socks off in rain and shine, and always with a smile.

“We ran a positive dignified campaign based on our local area.

“I’m hugely proud of them, and of the campaign.

“Our community deserves to be championed and people locally deserve to be supported.

“I congratulate Paul Masterton on his victory here, and wish him well in his new role.”
