Knife terror for McDonalds staff and customers

Police are appealing for information following a robbery at the McDonalds in Showcase Leisure Park in Bargeddie in the early hours today.

Around 2.20am a man entered the restaurant and presented a knife at female staff members. Whilst making threats, he made his way behind the counter and demanded cash before fleeing with the till.

The man then made off on foot in the general direction of Hollywood Bowl and Viewfield Road, Coatbridge.

Shortly before 5am police received a report of people acting suspiciously near Sharp Avenue, Coatbridge. Officers attended and the till from McDonalds was recovered.

The robbery suspect is described as around 6ft tall, medium build, wearing dark trainers with a white rim, grey jogging bottoms, grey hooded top with black jacket on top. He had a checked cream/brown scarf covering his face.

Detective Sergeant David Lamont said: “This was a particularly terrifying incident for staff and customers. Thankfully no one was injured, but the staff have all been left extremely distressed.

“I would appeal to anyone who has any information to contact Coatbridge CID on 101.”
