Know diamond gal or geezer?

AN APPEAL has gone out to people in the Cumbernauld and Kilsyth areas to unearth some gems.

The WRVS is calling for nominations for “Diamond Champions” – older people who volunteer in their communities and make a difference to others’ lives.

And in this the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee year, Prince Charles and his wife Camilla have agreed to be joint patrons of the search for diamond champs.

David McCullough, WRVS chief executive, said: “Our volunteers are among thousands around the country who do a wonderful, and often little-noticed, job in helping others, whether that be delivering meals on wheels for older people, or helping at Brownies.”

Diamond Champion nominees must be aged over 60. In each region 60 entries will be shortlisted, with a regional judging panel selecting a handful from each to meet with Charles and Camilla in the autumn. For more details see www.wrvs.org.uk
