Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn to speak at Queen's Park event

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn will be among the speakers at the star-studded Govanhill Music Festival next weekend in the Queen's Park Arena.

No less than three major events coalesce in Queens Park over the two days - the Glasgow Unity Festival, Govanhill International Carnival and the Govanhill Against Racism concert.

The weekend opens with The Glasgow Unity Festival, which explores the south side’s diverse and multicultural community and how it shapes our heritage.

On the Saturday (August 26) a parade through Govanhill will head for the park and the Govanhill International Carnival 2017, where there will be music and family-friendly activities all afternoon.

The Govanhill Against Racism Festival organised by the Alistair Hullett Memorial Trust (AHMT) is a two day music event featuring two concerts.

On the Sunday Roots Rock Reggae Against Racism features the cream of British reggae – Aswad, Misty in Roots and Black Roots.

On Monday, August 28, Black Grape are the headline act supported by beatboxer Bigg Taj and Colonel Mustard and the Dijon 5.

Fatima Uygun, from the promoters AHMT said: “We are delighted that Jeremy Corbyn will be joining us at Queens Park, and speaking in The Arena, where Paul Robeson sang in 1960 after leading the MayDay parade.”
