Lack of public toilets in Lanark driving tourists away

THE lack of any toilets at Lanark’s top tourist attraction is actually driving visitors away and losing the town’s embattled economy money.

Calls on South Lanarkshire Council to finally get on with repairs to reopen the long-defunct toilet block at the Loch Park are growing louder by the day as the crucial summer months approach when the Royal Burgh could cash in on visitors to the beautyspot.

However, it could be yet another opportunity missed if nothing continues to be done.

The eyesore block now stands out even more like a sore thumb, standing as it does near brand new play equipment bought for the park by the local Lanark Play Parks Action Group which raised £150,000 for this upgrade.

Now, say many, it is the council’s turn to improve the Loch.

Just what effect the lack of toilets is having was illustrated at the latest meeting of the town’s Community Council when it heard that the leader of a nursery school’s recent visit to the loch had stated they would never return to Lanark because there was nowhere for the children to go to the toilet.
