Lairdsland school up for another two awards for design

Lairdsland Primary School in Kirkintilloch is back in the spotlight after being shortlisted for two prizes at the recent Scottish Property Awards.

The building is in the running for the prestigious Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland Award and the Scottish Design Award.

“It is easy to see why it has been established as a reference design for primary schools in Scotland and why it is has been shortlisted for these prestigious awards.”

The £7.7m school was the first to be built through the Primary School Improvement Programme and was partly funded by Scottish Futures Trust. The Council worked with its development partner hub West Scotland to deliver the school which was designed by architects Walters & Cohen and built by Morgan Sindall.

The RIAS Awards are to be held on June 15 and the Scottish Design Awards on May 25, both in Glasgow hotels.

“Community consultation was at the heart of a collaborative design approach. The positive response from staff, pupils and parents has given the whole project team a great deal of pleasure.”
