LAMS Return to the Forbidden Planet

THIS year's Lanark Amateur Music Society's show was out of this world...as the cast performed Return to the Forbidden Planet.

The show, which ran from Thursday, October 14, to Saturday, October 16, saw the Cartland Bridge Hotel transformed into a futuristic world, which made i-pods and i-pads seem obsolete.

But in this futuristic world the music was strictly rock n' roll!

Among the songs performed were Great Balls of Fire, Good Vibrations, Young Girl, Shake, Rattle and Roll and The Young Ones.

Grant-Scott Johnston starred as Captain Tempest while the mad scientist Doctor Prospero was played by Dave Dickman.

Vikki Downie played the part of Miranda while Claire Foster played Ariel the robot.

Other excellent performances came from the likes of Allan Brown as Cookie, Annie Douglas as Gloria and Michelle Houston as Bosun Arras.

The plot followed the crew of a routine survey flight under the command of Captain Tempest.

Their spaceship is drawn mysteriously to the planet D'Illyria where mad scientist Doctor Prospero and his lovely daughter Miranda are marooned.

The show is full to the brim with fun-filled songs, which really lend themselves to the big stage.

Add to that the excellent setting and LAMS have really excelled themselves with this production.
