Lanark ‘Boy Racers’ may lose late night headquarters

IT appears that moves are underway to finally prevent Lanark’s so-called `Boy Racers’ using the town’s Tesco car park as a late-night gathering point.

As reported in the Gazette, after a lull of a few years, the problem of young drivers roaring through the streets into the early hours of the morning has been on the rise again.

Concerns about this were expressed to a police representative attending a recent meeting of Lanark Community Council.

During that meeting, the unofficial Lanark racing `circuit’ of Cleghorn Road/Stanmore Road/St Leonard Street/High Street/Bloomgate and Hope Street was identified, the start and finishing point being the Tesco car park on Gallowhill.

Council members repeated earlier calls for Tesco to ensure the car park was locked after the store’s usual closing time of 10pm and keep it so until opening time in the morning.
