Lanark chef among stars at Edinburgh Foodies Festival

A Lanark chef is among a galaxy of stars taking to the stage at the Foodies Festival in Edinburgh.

Mark Greenaway, who has his own restaurant in the city, is among the top chefs creating their favourite recipe at a Chefs’ Theatre at the festival.

Others include Michelin-star chef Marcello Tully of Kinloch Lodge and MasterChef: The Professionals winner Jamie Scott.

Mark was brought up in Forth and Kirkfieldbank, and went on to Motherwell College to do a catering course after leaving Biggar High School, and worked in the kitchen of the Cartland Bridge Hotel while studying.After spells in the Cartland and the Woodpecker, he began working at the age of 17 in the Hilton in Glasgow.

A stint in Australia followed and after his return he opened his own business in Edinburgh, Restaurant Mark Greenaway in North Castle Street.

It soon won acclaim from the critics. It has now been named number 13 in the UK by Square Meal in their 2015 list of the top 100 restaurants.

Mark is also a telly chef and currently is a weekly guest chef on STV Edinburgh’s The Fountainbridge Show. In 2012 Mark represented Scotland on BBC2’s Great British Menu and appeared again in the 2013 series.

Mark will be at the festival in Inverleith Park, from August 7 to August 9 to share some of his secrets.
