Lanark Chess Club are Lanarkshire champions for the fourth consecutive year

Also success for Club Champion Ian McLachlan and 11-year-old Alexander who won the Challengers Tournament

Being champions once is no mean feat but Lanark Chess Club are Kings of the game in Lanarkshire for the fourth consecutive year.

The four man team, comprising of Jim Smalls, Ian McLachlan, Tom Brown and Ian Brownlee won the Lanarkshire League ahead of their closest rivals Cumbernauld despite losing to the North Lanarkshire side in the opening match of the season.

It was a double success for 63-year-old Ian who also won the Club Championship – meaning he has won the coveted title in each of the last six decades!

It’s not just the golden oldies who are notching up the silverware at the club though – 11-year-old Alexander Bond bagged the Challengers Tournament trophy, beating a host of other promising youngsters to the title.
