Lanark Cornets Ride Out for Edinburgh

THE Magnificent Seven rode into town last week – the seven being Lanarkians and the town being Edinburgh.

One of the things the Royal Burgh had bragging rights over Scotland’s capital city was that, while we’ve kept our Marches tradition going for several hundred years, Edinburgh let its annual boundary inspection ceremony lapse back in 1718 and only brought it back – with Lanark’s help – in 2009.

Since the Edinburgh Riding of the Marches’ rebirth, Lanark’s Lord Cornet’s Club has played a leading part in the revived ritual and, sure enough, members were there again when the 2012 event took place.
