Lanark drivers get booked for parking in town centre spaces reserved for electric vehicles

DRIVERS have expressed shock at being ‘booked’ for using spaces in the town centre’s main car park which have suddenly been reserved for still highly-rare electric vehicles only.

Their mood wasn’t improved this week when car park operators South Lanarkshire Council stated that the spaces in Bernard’s Wynd, between the High Street and South Vennel, are “principally” for its own vehicles.

The controversy comes on the back of years of complaints about a shortage of public car parking spaces in the town centre hitting the burgh’s economy by reducing custom for its traditional shops.
