Lanark Fire Station hosts cookery classes

LANARK Fire Station isn’t the kind of place where you’d expect cookery classes to be held, even for folk who keep on burning whatever food their trying to make!

However, its not protecting food from being burned but the young folk preparing it that’s the main aim of the Cook-safe Initiative sessions being held fortnightly at the firefighters base.

Explaining what’s going on, Station Commander Stepehen McGrath said: “The Initiative is for young carers in our area, with two groups, one for those aged up to 12 years and the other for the 12 to 16 year olds.

“They currently meet fortnightly to complete a five Cook-safe session course covering all aspects of safety and hygiene in the kitchen when preparing and cooking food along with information on nutritional values of the foods they use in the demonstrations.”
