Lanark fireman Sam Scott leaves after 30 years of service

ONE of Lanark’s most popular and experienced firefighters, Samuel `Sam’ Scott, has stood his last watch at the Hope Street station after three decades of service to the public.

At the relatively early age of 53, Sam has now completed his `statutory’ 30 years of service, a time of great change in his profession which has seen firemen becoming firefighters and even the old Strathclyde Fire Brigade he joined back in 1982 now being `rebranded’ the Strathclyde Fire and Rescue Service.

His colleagues and two very important members of his family gathered for a special lunch held to mark the final day of a service at the Lanark base where he has become a friend and mentor to a whole generation of colleagues.
