Almost 80 swimmers took to the pool to raise money for Marie Curie Nurses with some taking part individually or as part of a team swimming either 1.5km, 2.5km or 5km.

Swimming development officer Lindsey Leeper is hoping that Lanark swimmers will better last year’s fundraising total of £7487.

Lindsey said: “All of our swimmers turned up which means it’s looking like we will have the second highest number of swimmers in Scotland which is a remarkable achievement. We have beaten large pools in Glasgow and Edinburgh. We were delighted to see so many people taking part. A lot of people were looking to have personal best times as well as raise money.”

Lindsey added that, by her calculation, those taking part swam a total of 181 kilometres.

Members of Lanark Triathlon Club also raised the sum of £264.32 from a bake sale, held on Friday evening.
