Lanark Grammar pupils hold Holocaust Memorial Day assembly

LANARK Grammar pupils commemorated Holocaust Memorial Day with an assembly led by two pupils who visited Auschwitz.

Max Quinn (18) and Dougie Scott (17) visited the death camp in Poland, where the Nazis exterminated 1.1 million Jews, with the Lessons from Auschwitz project last year.

It takes groups of senior students from schools all over the country out to Auschwitz to ensure the lessons are never forgotten.

Max and Dougie are now ambassadors for the Lessons from Auschwitz programme.

Ambassadors play a key role in the Holocaust Educational Trust’s commitment to educating about the Holocaust and subsequent genocides.

Lanark Grammar has a strong tradition of Holocaust Education and participation in the Lessons from Auschwitz programme.

This year’s assembly, organised by RE teacher Pauline Kerr, was for S5 and S6 pupils. School chaplain Rev Bryan Kerr and local councillors Ed Archer and Catherine McClymont were among those there to commemorate the Holocaust.

At the assembly Max and Dougie shared their own experiences.
