Lanark Guides win seven Baden Powell Challenge Awards

OBVIOUSLY the old superstition about thirteen being an unlucky number just doesn’t apply to the Lanark Guides.

That’s because each one of the unit’s Magnificent Seven winners of their movement’s top accolade, the Baden Powell Challenge Award, is 13 years old.

In a ceremony to mark what is thought to be a unit record number of girls receiving the award in a single session, outgoing District Commissioner Mary Thirlwell – a Lanark Guide herself in her day – presented them to terrific teens Gillian Laing, Sarah Richardson, Amy McGregor, Kara Wilson, Sally Pringle, Eve Robb and Jenni Donald; all the girls live in Lanark with the exception of Eve, a Cleghorn lass.
