Lanark jobs lost in Acorn pet store chain closure

THE ACORN pet store in Lanark has closed with the loss of eight jobs as the whole chain went into administration.

The Lanark shop, at Braidfute retail park, was one of those saved earlier, in a management buy out in 2009.

But now Acorn Pets (UK) Ltd, which operated 22 Scottish pet stores, has entered administration for the second time in less than two years.

The administrators have closed 16 of the firm’s stores immediately, with the loss of 122 full and part time jobs with the aim of rescuing the remaining six stores.
